KATHMANDU, Aug 2: An application has been filed at the Kathmandu District Administration Office on Wednesday demanding probe into the reason behind the death of journalist Yadav Thapaliya, who was working with Kantipur national daily.

Ganga Khatiwada, wife of late Thapaliya, in her application has said she wanted to know the reason after the hospital and the doctors involved showed one complication after another behind his death but failed to make it clear what ailment exactly caused his death.

“We had suspected negligence at the hospital as the doctors showed one reason after another while he passed away within 48 hours after he went to hospital for treatment of a general health complication and got admitted for treatment,” stated the application filed against Sinamangal-based Kathmandu Medical College.

“The doctors had told us that the reason of his death was viral influenza but the test report was negative on viral influenza.”

The doctors involved in his treatment had initially said he had typhoid, then they said infection of lever, then typhus and again they said pneumonia, Khatiwada said in her application.

“Therefore, we have suspected that either there was negligence or they failed to diagnose the reason properly,” states the application.

Stating that the patient was placed on a ventilator even as he was talking to others, Khatiwada said the doctors, who had said they would continue treatment in the ventilator for 72 hours, have so far not given any reason why they removed him from the ventilator within 12 hours.

She said that they had repeatedly requested the doctors to either make all efforts for all types of possible treatment in the hospital or to allow them to shift him to other hospitals.

“The doctors had said the hospital treating him well but he passed away the next day,” reads the application.

She also claimed that the hospital administration's dillydallying in providing reports made them further suspicious about some mistakes in the course of treatment on the part of the hospital. She has complained that the hospital hasn't provided her the details of tests and medicines.

“Therefore, I request for a probe to find out what was the exact reason behind the death of my husband,” she said.

Thapalia previously worked as the desk editor of Republica's sister publication Nagarik daily.
