KATHMANDU, Feb 16: Senior leaders of two left forces of the country are likely to come together to take a decisive stand on party merger today.

Despite much hype, merger has become difficult after ideological differences between the two communist parties; the CPN-UML and Maoist Centre.

CPN-UML is unwilling to give up people’s multi-party democracy, their official political ideology.  In turn, the Maoist Centre also is reluctant to let go of ‘Maoism’.

With ideological differences and party unification in a catch, CPN-MC is in no plans to join the government for now. Dahal has repeatedly focused on party unification over government formation.

A Party Unification Coordination Committee meeting scheduled for yesterday was postponed for today following political changes; Sher Bahadur Deuba’s resignation and swearing-in ceremony of KP Sharma Oli as the 38th Prime Minister of Nepal.

If today’s meeting is unable to reach a conclusion, the Maoist Centre is likely to support the UML led government from the outside.
