KATHMANDU, Feb 22: A woman who was stranded in New Delhi, India, for the past two months has been rescued on the initiative of Labor, Employment and Social Security Minister Krishna Kumar Shrestha. A 32-year-old woman from Morang Sundaraharauchaki, who was on her way to the UAE via New Delhi, India after paying Rs 220,000 to a broker to earn money, has been rescued after two months.

A man named Urgen Lama had lured her to foreign employment in Dubai via India on a tourist visa. However, after being stranded for two months, she reported at the grievance center at the Labor Minister's Secretariat. She complained that she had been held hostage for a long time and didn’t even receive medical treatment.
Minister Shrestha had initiated the rescue operation with the help of the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi and the police. Local agent Shambhu Lama was arrested by the police in New Delhi and the woman’s money was returned. The woman was kept in a shelter after her rescue by the anti-trafficking organization 'Afanta Nepal' with the help of Delhi Women's Commission. The rescued woman met Minister Shrestha on Monday and demanded action against the broker. Police are searching for Lama.
