Writ petition filed at SC against govt’s prohibitory order in Maitighar

KATHMANDU, Nov 21: A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court (SC) against the decision of the District Administration Office (DAO), Kathmandu, to impose a prohibitory order in the Maitighar Mandala area.


Advocate Swagat Nepal filed the writ petition at the SC claiming that the DAO’s order had suppressed the right of citizens to assemble peacefully without arms.

The SC Administration has set the date for the preliminary hearing on the petition for Wednesday.


He has demanded that the decision of the local administration should be annulled and the decision of the prohibited area should be revoked and the citizens should be allowed to demonstrate peacefully.


Based on the recommendations made by the District Security Committee, Kathmandu, Chief District Officer of Kathmandu Jitendra Basnet declared a prohibited area, restricting the organization of any forms of mass-gatherings in Maitighar-Baneshwar area for 30 days with effect from Monday.
