Pandey accuses Oli of misusing state power and resources to fulfill vested interests
KATHMANDU, March 30: A key leader of the ruling CPN-UML Surendra Pandey has accused the party Chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli of making a mockery of good governance while heading the government.
Leader Pandey, who had also served as the Minister of Finance, claimed that PM Oli had abused the government and state mechanisms to promote the welfare of the faction led by him. “You have misused the power and resources in order to fulfill your vested interests,” wrote Pandey in his nine-page clarification letter submitted to Chairman Oli.

PM Oli dissolved the lower house of parliament after the gross failures of the incumbent government, according to leader Pandey. It is to be noted that PM Oli had unconstitutionally dissolved the House of Representatives on December 20 last year. His House dissolution move, however, was overturned by the February 23 verdict of the Supreme Court’s Constitutional Bench led by Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JBR.
Leader Pandey, in his clarification letter, urged Oli to return the party to its erstwhile position as it was on May 16, 2018 when the party decided to go for a merger with the CPN (Maoist Center) and form the biggest communist force-- Nepal Communist Party (NCP)-- following a landslide victory in the 2017 general election held in the name of left alliance. “Party unity can be maintained only if the decisions taken on March 12 are revoked and ensured that the party functions as per the party statute.”
Earlier, Chairman Oli had sought clarifications from senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, Vice Chairman Bhim Rawal, Surendra Pandey and Bhusal for allegedly violating party’s discipline by organizing parallel party activities and supporting the enemy of the party. Oli has already suspended the general membership of Nepal and Rawal for six months alleging that their clarification was not satisfactory.
Another leader of the party, Ghanashayam Bhushal, submitting his 11-page long clarification letter to Chairman Oli on Tuesday itself stated that Oli has already cornered leaders of the second generation for putting forth their dissident voices in the party. “You have such a corrupt gang of leaders belonging to the party’s next generation who have proved their proficiency at exploiting state resources through falsity and conspiracy,” Bhusal wrote in his letter.
