SURKHET, September 4: A number of youths have emerged into politics in the 14th general convention of the Nepali Congress (NC). Janaki Rawal, 22, from Achham and Swastika Mahat, 19, were elected the ward president of NC in the event. This has given rise to a new hope of the youth joining active politics.
Swastika Mahat is a 19-year-old from Dallu Municipality-3 of Dailekh. Having made up her mind to serve the people at such a young age, she was elected as the ward president during the 14th general convention of NC. Her late father Bhupendra Jung Mahat was also a former ward president.
The allure of Nepali books
As her father was a local politician, Mahat grew up in a political environment. Alongside her appointment to the post, Mahat has been overwhelmed with the responsibilities she now has on her shoulders. She is currently focused on ways to strengthen the party’s hold at the local level. Mahat has assured everyone to influence more youths into politics at the ward, local and district level. There are currently 133 active members of NC in her ward. Similarly, 34-year-old Bharam Saud has been elected the Vice President while 28-year-old Lokendra Mahat was elected the secretary of the ward.
Likewise, 22-year-old Janaki Rawal has been elected as ward president of Mangalsen Municipality-11 of Acham district. Rawal is the first female ward president of the party in the district. She has assured to continue her education along with her political duties. Similarly, 31-year-old Saroj Rijal has been elected as the ward president of Dallu Municipality-5.
Also, 31-year-old Dipendra Puri was elected the vice president of Dallu MUnicipality-10. He was elected as the district member of Nepal Student Union in 2004.
