KATHMANDU, Nov 27: The Zonta Club of Kathmandu launched a campaign to raise awareness against domestic violence, work/public place harassment and child marriage on November 25. The initiative coincided with the United Nations’ 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence from 25 November to 10 December 2021.

According to a statement issued by the organization, Zonta has produced four short films that deliver the vital campaign message Kahile kahi hoina, Kahile pani hundaina (it’s never ever okay). It will also stage a series of street plays at public places in Kathmandu starting from December 1.

The launch event of the campaign was attended by government officials, diplomats, development partners, civil society members, and media while the videos were produced with financial support from Siddhartha Bank and MG.

“Very often we hear people justify violence by saying it happens sometimes, so let it be. These short films deliver the vital message that violence/harassment and child marriages are never okay - not one time, NOT EVER and one must speak up,” the statement quoted Seema Golchha, President of Zonta Club of Kathmandu as saying. “The video, we hope, will encourage victims to seek help and let them know of the helpline options where they can safely call and speak up.”
