1 killed, 17 injured in bus accident

DARCHULA, Nov 24: One passenger died while 17 others were injuries after a minibus fell 300 meters from the road at Malikarjun Rural Municipality-3, Darchula on Friday morning.

DARCHULA, Nov 24: One passenger died while 17 others were injuries after a minibus fell 300 meters from the road at Malikarjun Rural Municipality-3, Darchula on Friday morning.


The minibus was en route to Khalanga from Malikarjun temple when the accident occurred at 4 am. Anil Pal, 40, of Pithoragarh district, Uttarakhand has been identified as the deceased in the accident.

Police have estimated around 40 passengers were travelling in the bus. Of the 17 injured in the accident, seven have sustained serious injuries while 10 have minor injuries.


According to the spokesperson of the District Police Office, Darchula, inspector Hikmat Bahadur Bohara, the seven persons injured in the accident are in critical condition and are currently undergoing treatment at Gokuleshwar Hospital.


Inspector Bohara said rescuers from Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and Nepal Army had reached the site immediately after the accident and started rescue. The seriously injured passengers have been identified as Laxmi Kunwar of Lokam Rural Municipality-4; Bhupendra Dhami of Malikarjun Rural Municipality-8;  Daulat Singh of Lokam Rural Municipality-4; Ramesh Singh Dhami of Malikarjun Rural Municipality-3; Dhirendra Dhami of Malikarjun Rural Municipality-8; and Laxmi Kunwar and Rewati Basnet of Lokam Rural Municipality-4.
