10 million rupees in traffic violation fine

DOTI, Jan 5: The District Traffic Police Office, Dipayal has collected revenue worth more than 10 million rupees in the first six months of the current fiscal year. During the period, 1,629 drivers were penalized for violating the traffic rule, chief of the District Traffic Police Office, Dipayal Ashok Khadka said. In the previous fiscal year, the Office had collected Rs. 2. 4 million from fine imposed on traffic rules violators. A total of 4,454 people were penalized during the period. In the fiscal year 2074/75, the traffic police had penalized 4,236 vehicle drivers and collected Rs. 2.3 million in revenue. The office has been carrying out strict monitoring on the roads of the district. "Our objective is not to collect revenue but minimize road accidents with the help of the fine," Khadka said. In the fiscal year 2075/76, 11 people had died while 30 had been killed in road accidents in FT 2074/75. As of Kartik this fiscal year, four people have died in road accidents. In addition to the penalty, the traffic police is also working to raise public awareness about traffic rules. The focus in on those carrying passengers more than capacity, not carrying required documents, driving under the influence of alcohol, not wearing seat belt, and running government vehicles on holidays, said the traffic police office in Dipayal, Doti.
