KATHMANDU, Dec 25: The Election Commission (EC) has granted election symbols to those political parties taking part in the upcoming National Assembly election scheduled for next month.
A total of 11 political parties are contesting in the election taking place on January 23.
EC allocates election symbols to 20 parties for by-election
According to the EC, Nepal Communist Party (with election symbol sun), Nepali Congress (tree), Rastriya Janata Party (inclined umbrella), Socialist Party (palm along with five fingers) and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (cow) are in the election race.
Similarly, other parties taking part in the election are Rastriya Prajatantra Party (United) (plough), Nepal Federal Socialist Party (bus), Nepal Janata Dal (wheel of oxen cart), Rastriya Janamorcha (glass), Nepal Workers and Peasants' Party (madal) and Itihasik Prajatantrik Janata Party (tractor).
Meanwhile, the EC has declared seven district judges the election officers and two judges as reserved election officers in view of the Upper House election.
Medini Prasad of Morang, Raj Kumar Khatiwada of Dhanusha, Mohan Bahadur Karki of Lalitpur, Kaji Bhadur Rai of Kaski, Ritendra Thapa of Dang, Rajendra Kumar Acharya of Surkhet and Bidur Kafle of Doti have been assigned to take the responsibilities of election officers for the election and those election officers in reserve are Kailash Prasad Subedi and Diwakar Bhatta.
