11th Int’l Convention of NRNA to start from today

KATHMANDU, Oct 17: The 11th World Conference and International Convention of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) is scheduled to start from today.


President Ramchandra Paudel is said to inaugurate the conference at a hotel in Kathmandu.


Five individuals have staked their claim to the position of NRNA president in the convention to be held for the selection of new leadership.

Along with the current working committee chairpersons Badri KC and Ravina Thapa, vice chairpersons RK Sharma, Mahesh Shrestha and deputy general secretary Binay Adhikari have also claimed the post of NRNA president.


With the support of the CPN-UML, Nepali Congress and Maoist Center, respectively, KC, Shrestha and Sharma have announced their candidacy along with the panel.


A session on women and youth will also be conducted at the World Knowledge Forum from this afternoon to tomorrow. A five-member election committee has been formed under the chairmanship of advocate Yadav Dhungana for the convention. A total of 74 International Coordinating Council officers will be elected at the convention.


The number of members listed in the Association from all over the world is 96,850. The eligible voters can vote online for 24 hours in the NRNA election on November 18.


According to the NRNA, more than 4,000 people will participate in the conference, including representatives of the Government of Nepal, non-resident Nepali representatives from various National Coordination Councils, activists of NRNA and local and foreign personalities.
