27 inmates die in six months

KATHMANDU, Feb 12: Twenty-seven inmates died in the six months of the current fiscal year across the country. They died of various sorts of diseases. The Central Jail Jagannathdewal tops the deaths.

KATHMANDU, Feb 12: Twenty-seven inmates died in the six months of the current fiscal year across the country. They died of various sorts of diseases. The Central Jail Jagannathdewal tops the deaths.

According to the Department of Prison Management’s Director General, Hari Prasad Mainali, most of the deaths were due to old age. The central jail has been providing medical and healthcare services to inmates through a 30-bed health facility inside the prison and patients in need are referred to other government facilities such as the Bir, TU Teaching Hospital (TUTH), Mental Hospital and Shahid Gangalal National Heart Center.


Presently, there are around 21,000 inmates across the country, and of them, some 3,000 which are the detainees are in the central jail. RSS
