KATHMANDU, May 9: Over 46,000 civil servants have been deployed to 283 local units of three provinces for the first phase of local elections scheduled for Sunday.

The civil servants deployed for the elections are accompanied by the security personnel.

"Poll officers for all local units have left together with the security personnel and election materials," said EC Spokesperson Surya Prasad Sharma.

According to Sharma, ID cards will be distributed to voters from Thursday. "Preparations are going smoothly. Voters can collect their voter ID cards from polling centers and the volunteers deployed at the local level will teach them on how to cast vote in a valid manner."
