480 kg of gold recovered from TIA in 7 months

KATHMANDU, July 17: Tribhuvan International Airport Customs office seized 480 kg of illegal gold from international air passengers in 7 months of the last fiscal year.


The Airport Customs office released the details of the fiscal year 2078/79 and said that gold worth Rs 3.80 billion was seized at the airport. According to the customs office, an additional revenue of Rs 455.8 million has also been collected from the seized gold.

By law, travelers coming to Nepal from abroad can bring with them a maximum 100 grams of raw gold by paying the customs revenue. In the case of gold jewelry, there is a legal provision that maximum 250 grams can be worn. Out of which, revenue exemption is available for the first 50 grams of jewelry, and in the case of jewelry up to 200 grams, it can be brought only by paying the customs revenue.


In case of bringing more than 100 grams of raw gold and more than 250 grams of gold jewelry, there is a provision to confiscate such gold and gold jewelry and take action according to the customs law.
