POKHARA, Oct 14: As the13th South Asian Games closes, the renovation works of the Pokhara Stadium has gained momentum.
According to authorities at the stadium, about 50 percent of the renovation works has been completed.
The works of laying synthetic track, parapet construction, turf and other infrastructures are currently underway.
“The first phase of blacktopping the track has completed,” said Deepak Baral, project manager of the Indian contractor Great Sports and MA Construction Jawlakhel JV.
“After the second stage of blacktopping completes, we will lay synthetic track,” he added.

“The materials for track have also started arriving from Germany.”
Of the 17 toilets planned in the stadium premises, 12 toilets have already been constructed.
The works of parapet construction, which will of steel modular design, is also underway.
“We are working on the stands,” said Baral.
According to Baral, the turf to be laid on the ground will arrive after November 9. About 9,000 turf patches will be imported in six trucks from Kolkata.
“It will take at least one week for them to arrive here,” he added.
Likewise, the stadium seats are expected to arrive from France by November 12. The authorities have ordered folding seats to felicitate the entry and exit.
A team comprising of two French technicians will come to Pokhara to install the stadium seats, who will be assisted by a number other technicians and labors from the country.
However, not all the seats at the 20 thousands capacity stadium will be installed before the SAG.
“Only 8,000 to 10,000 seats will be installed for the SAG.”
Previously it was agreed to build the stadium to 16,500 seats capacity.
The South Asian Games will be held from December 1 to 10.
