56 Nepali students return to Kathmandu from Bangladesh

Foreign ministry says all Nepalis in Bangladesh are safe and govt has asked India to ensure their safety


KATHMANDU, July 21: A total of 56 Nepali students in Bangladesh have returned to Nepal. They landed at the Tribhuvan International Airport on Sunday.


More than 800 of the nearly 3000 Nepalis in Bangladesh have started to return to Nepal.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, over 800 Nepalis left Bangladesh to return home on Sunday. They are returning to Nepal using both air and land routes.


In addition, the Government of Nepal arranged for 17 students who are studying at Inam Medical College in Bangladesh to return to Kathmandu via air.


Rishi Acharya, undersecretary at the ministry, mentioned that out of the 3,000 Nepalis studying in Bangladesh, only 800 have started to return from Bangladesh so far.


"The government is working with several agencies to ensure the safe return of the Nepalis stranded in Bangladesh amidst violent protests," he said. Discussions have already taken place through the embassy to assist the students who want to return to Nepal through India.


Undersecretary Acharya reassured that all Nepalis residing in Bangladesh are safe and will return to Nepal.
