KATHMANDU, Aug 5: The Nepali Embassy in Dhaka has reported that most Nepali students impacted by the ongoing student protests in Bangladesh have safely returned to Nepal.

In a statement released on Monday, the embassy confirmed that approximately 400 Nepali students currently in Bangladesh are safe.

"While most Nepali students have returned home, the remaining 400 students are also safe. We are maintaining regular communication with them," the statement said.

The embassy has advised Nepalis to remain cautious and vigilant. Students who need assistance or wish to return to Nepal should contact the embassy’s Second Secretary Yojana Bomjan or Riya Chhetri.

The unrest in Bangladesh has intensified significantly, with at least 90 people killed in recent clashes between police and anti-government protesters. The violence arose as student leaders launched a campaign of civil disobedience demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The protests began over a quota system for civil service jobs but have expanded into a broader anti-government movement. Thirteen police officers were killed when protesters attacked a police station in Sirajganj. The death toll since July now exceeds 280, with reports of widespread violence and curfews in place.
