With 12 people dying in past 24 hours, Nepal’s COVID death tally crosses 200


KATHMANDU, Aug 29: The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) on Saturday reported 12 more deaths as a result of novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infection in Nepal in the past 24 hours.

With nine male and three female patients dying of COVID-19 infection, the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in the country has climbed to 207, said ministry spokesperson Dr Jageshwor Gautam during the regular virtual media briefing earlier on Saturday afternoon. Those dying of COVID-19 past one day include 153 males and 54 females. 


Three women aged 30, 51 and 62 from Palpa, Kathmandu and Bhaktapur districts, respectively, and two males aged 48 and 39 from Parsa and two more aged 72 and 61 from Lalitpur district succumbed to this contagious virus in the past one day. One male each aged 84, 38, 83, 82 and 58 from Siraha, Gorkha, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Kaski district, respectively, are also among those dying of COVID-19 in the past one day.


According to the data maintained by the MoHP, a total of 58 people died of COVID-19 between August 23 and 29. Most of them breathed their last while undergoing treatment at the government designated COVID-19 hospitals.


Nepal reported the first COVID-19 death earlier on May 16. According to the MoHP, some 0.6 percent of the 37,340 confirmed cases of this disease have so far died of this virus.
