KATHMANDU, Jan 23: At least 40 people died of the novel coronavirus disease in Nepal in the past one week, according to the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP).
Of the total deaths reported across the country, the highest number of single-day deaths (eight) were reported on Saturday with four deaths each on Tuesday and Thursday confirmed by the ministry.
Stay extremely alert
Since the country confirmed the first fatality related to COVID-19 infection on May 16, last year, the death tally has inched closer to 2,000. As of Saturday afternoon, the death tally stood at 1,994.
Meanwhile, the ministry reported a total of 2,124 new infections of the disease from Sunday to Saturday, this week with the highest of infections confirmed on Tuesday (348). More than 300 people are diagnosed with this viral infection in a day on an average.
With 232 new cases confirmed through 3,541 PCR tests on Saturday, the country’s overall casetally has jumped to 269,180. The country’s recovery rate stands at 97.9 percent. There are still 3,452 COVID-19 patients yet to gain recovery.
