AFP’s Raju Rai bags five golds, one silver in gymnastic

NEPALGUNJ, April 23: Armed Police Force (APF) Club’s Raju Rai has bagged five gold medals in the ongoing 19th Men’s and seventh Women’s National Gymnastic Tournament at the Eighth National Games on Monday. Rai also claimed a silver medal to his name.

NEPALGUNJ, April 23: Armed Police Force (APF) Club’s Raju Rai has bagged five gold medals in the ongoing 19th Men’s and seventh Women’s National Gymnastic Tournament at the Eighth National Games on Monday. Rai also claimed a silver medal to his name. 


In the last edition of the National Games, Rai had won seven gold medals. 


At the Judo Hall in Karkando, Rai won the gold in men’s floor garnering 7.75 points as APF’s Dinesh Sunuwar and Province 3’s Ujjwal Tiwari finished second and third respectively. 

In vaulting table, Rai had to satisfy for silver as Tiwari bagged the gold with 7.25 points and Province 3’s Tridev Giri finished third. 


In parallel bars, Rai finished top with 7.4 points, while Province 3’s Satya Narayan Manandhar and Sudur Paschim Province’s Jitendra Chaudhary claimed the second and third places respectively. 

In pommel horse, Rai got 5.90 points to win the gold, while APF’s Rikesh Tamang and Giri stood second and third respectively. 


In all-around, Rai registered 26.90 points to get the top spot, with Province 3’s Manandhar and APF’s Bishnu Bota claiming second and third places respectively. Rai added gold in team event as well with 110.60 points. The team comprised Rikesh Tamang, Ramesh Shrestha, Shree Krishna Kharbuja, Dinesh Sunuwar and Bota. Province 3 stood second and Sudur Paschim became third in team event. 


In women’s team event, Province 3 won the gold as Tara Siwakoti, Jenisha Thapa, Prakriti Thapa Magar, Riju Ranjit, Saubhagya Koju and Sabikshya Suwal got 48.575 points. APF stood second, while Sudur Paschim and Province 5 became third.

In women’s category, APF’s Pinky Jha got 7.70 points to win the gold. Siwakoti and Tribhuvan Army Club’s Bidisha Neupane finished second and third respectively. 

In floor, Jha won another gold beating Siwakoti and Neupane. 


In all-around, Siwakoti claimed the gold with 16.95 points as APF’s Lumila Manandhar and Province 3’s Thapa Magar became second and third respectively.


Karate 


Province 1’s Ashmita Rai and Gandaki’s Nabin Rasaili won gold medals to keep provincial dominance in karate. 


At the Karate Covered Hall in Tulsipur of Dang, Rai and Rasaili won gold medals in women’s 55-kg and men’s 67-kg weight categories, respectively. 


Rasaili defeated APF’s Suwa Ghatani, while Province 1’s Rojan Khadka and Arjun Kumar Baghchan claimed joint-silver. 


In men’s 55-kg weight category, Rai defeated APF’s Soni Rai to win the gold. Police’s Armila DC and Army’s Sandhya Ghising got bronzes. 


In men’s 84-kg weight category, Police’s Diwas Shrestha defeated APF’s Bhim Tamang to win the gold, while Sudur Paschim’s Hem Raj Thapa and Province 5’s Narayan Gurung got bronzes. 

In men’s 75-kg, Police’s Gangaram Kusuwar defeated Province 5’s Umesh Gurung to win the gold, while Sudur Paschim’s Lokesh Parki and APF’s Mohammed Alam got bronzes. 


In women’s 68-kg, Army’s Sunny Tamang won the gold defeating Province 3’s Nirupa Tamang. In the category, APF’s Rupa Maharjan and Sharmila Gharti Magar got bronzes.

 

Sepak Takrow 

Army has won in all four categories of the fifth National Sepak Takrow Tournament. 

At Gulariya, Bardiya, Army defeated Province 3 21-17, 21-12 to win the men’s doubles, while it also won the women’s doubles, men’s and women’s regu categories as well. 

A total of six teams—Army, Province 1, Province 3, Gandaki, Province 5 and Sudur Paschim—took part in the tournament which was played in league-cum-knockout format. 


Wushu


Army duo Nima Gharti Magar, 12th South Asian Games gold medalist, and Mina Glyan, have won gold medals in the ongoing 14th National Wushu Tournament. 


In women’s nan chuan/nan quan, Magar added 18.2 points in aggregate to win the gold, while Province 3’s Anjita Syangten and Karnali Province’s Saru Soti stood second and third respectively. 

In women’s thaichi chuan/thaichi quan, Glyan became first with 18.21 points beating 12th SAG silver medal winner 


Army’s Sabita Rai. Sudur Paschim’s Samjhana Chaudhary finished third. 

In men’s thaichi chuan/thaichi quan, Army’s Hari Prasad Gol won the gold medal with 18.48 points, while Province 3’s Pasang Sherpa and Sudur Paschim’s Janak Budha finished second and third respectively. 

In men’s nan chuan/nan quan, Karnali’s Deepak Hamal won the gold with 19.1 points as APF’s Yuvraj Thapa and Sunny Shrestha stood second and third respectively.


Handball 

APF and Gandaki Province have set the summit clash for men’s category in the ongoing National Handball Tournament. 


In the premises of Nepalgunj Stadium, APF defeated the other departmental team Army 32-26 to reach the final, with nine goals from APF’s Lokendra Chandra. 


In the other semifinal match, Gandaki overcame Province 3 40-18 courtesy of seven goals each from Dinesh Shrestha and Karan Thapa. Province 3’s Amar Shrestha hit seven goals too. 

Meanwhile, Army will play against APF in women’s category. 


At the District Administration Office, Army saw off Province 1 38-17 with Kabita Rai scoring 11 goals for Army, while in the other last four clash, APF got past Gandaki 22-4 courtesy of seven goals from Devi Shrestha. 

Both the finals will be played on Tuesday.
