KATHMANDU, April 5: Nepal Telecom has committed to complete the footpath work on the Birgunj bypass road section by April 10.

After the provincial directorate of Nepal Telecom in Birgunj promised to complete the work by April 10, the metropolis started picking up the garbage dumped on its premises on Tuesday.

After the Telecom employees came to the office in the morning and gave written information, Mayor Rajeshman Singh instructed the sanitation branch to pick up the garbage.

Sarfudin Miya, the officer of the Sanitation Management Branch, said that the garbage had already been collected before 10 am.

On Tuesday morning, Birgunj Metropolis threw 7 tractors of garbage on the premises of the Telecom office, saying that the road and footpath repair work had been left in abeyance after promising to complete it by mid-February.

The metropolis had taken the stand of not picking up the garbage until it gave a written commitment as to how long it would take to complete the work on the footpath.

Acting Director of Nepal Telecom Anant Prakash Mallik said that the metropolis has been informed about the time demanded by the contractor. "During the footpath work, the metropolis brought garbage and dumped it on the office premises without any coordination. We feel that the rule of law has been violated," he said. “We have informed the metropolis in writing about it. After that, they also picked up the garbage.”

He said that the construction company has committed to continue the work by hiring 10 more workers.

Pinus Banke JV through the Telecom Office had drug up the footpath with interlock blocks while trenching, dockering and bulging on Gandak Chowk to Rajat Jayanti Chowk route.

Bharat Bahadur Karki, the owner of the JV, informed Nepal Telecom on Tuesday that the pavement repair work will be completed by 10th April.

Mayor Rajeshman Singh said that the Telecom, under pressure after the move of the metropolis, started repairing the abandoned roads and footpaths from Wednesday morning.
