BIRGUNJ, April 4: The Birgunj Metropolitan City has taken a strong exception to Nepal Telecom’s negligence in repair of road and footpath in the city. As a form of symbolic protest, the metropolis piled garbage on the premises of the regional office of Nepal Telecom, located in Shreepur.

According to sources, the Metropolitan City employees and a team comprising city police officials transported seven tractors of garbage to the Telecom office premises. The officials alleged that the roads and footpaths were dug up by the telecom, causing inconvenience to the passengers for several months. The citizens of the city had to face severe inconvenience due to this act of telecom.

The Bold Message from Birgunj

Nepal Telecom’s Birgunj Office Chief Rajeshman Singh claimed that during the laying of optical fiber, nearly five kilometers of black-topped roads and sidewalks were left dug and the work was left stranded for months. Despite repeated requests to repair the roads, no action was taken by the concerned authorities, which ultimately forced the metropolis to dispose of the garbage on the premises of Nepal Telecom.

In a meeting held on February 15 in the presence of the Chief District Officer, it was agreed in writing that the roads and footpaths dug up by telecom would be repaired by mid-March.

The Birgunj Metropolitan City has taken a strong stand against the issue, and the matter is expected to be resolved soon.
