BIRATNAGAR, June 19: Negotiations have started between the Koshi province government and the agitating identity advocates demanding cancellation of naming the province as Koshi at Big Hotel in Biratnagar.

BIRATNAGAR, June 19: Negotiations have started between the Koshi province government and the agitating identity advocates demanding cancellation of naming the province as Koshi at Big Hotel in Biratnagar.


Gobinda Angbung, Yuvraj Rai, Rambhakta Kurumbang, Lakpa Sherpa, Gelje Sherpa, Kumar Lingden, Ramesh Rai, Krishna Chongbang, Prem Mivak and Padam Jawegu are taking part in the negotiation on behalf of identity advocates. Similarly, Minister of Industry, Agriculture and Cooperatives and Infrastructure Bhakti Prasad Sitaula and Minister for Social Development Buddhi Kumar Rajbhandari are participating on behalf of the provincial government. The government team is led by Minister of Drinking Water and Sanitation Til Kumar Meyangbo.

After the Provincial Assembly renamed the province as "Koshi" on March 1, identity advocates launched protests demanding re-naming the province on the basis of ethnic identity. In the course of the protests, one person lost his life and more than hundred protestors were injured.
