A cabinet meeting on Sunday appointed AIG Dhiraj Pratap Singh to the post of Inspector General of Nepal Police even as he was junior in terms of the promotion of the AIG. Pokharel was the sole candidate promoted as AIG, while Singh was promoted to the post much later.

AIG Pokhrel, who is senior to Singh, has demanded that he be made the Inspector General of Nepal Police, arguing that he is ahead of Singh in terms of seniority and work performance appraisal.
