Air quality in Kathmandu improves in afternoon between 3 and 4 on Tuesday, docks at 47.58 μg/m³

KATHMANDU, Feb 2: The Kathmandu Valley reported a slight improvement in the quality of air on Tuesday afternoon between 3 and 4. The fine particulate matter (Pm 2.5) reading docked at 47.58 μg/m³, according to the data collected from 17 pollution monitoring stations installed at various parts in the country’s capital city.

The fine particulate matter (Pm 2.5) reading docked at 47.58 μg/m³, according to the data collected from 17 pollution monitoring stations installed at various parts in the country’s capital city.

The cleanest air, measured on Tuesday, was just 7.5 points higher than that of the standard of healthy air prescribed by the Government of Nepal. This, however, was higher than the standard of 25 μg/m³ set by the World Health Organization (WHO). 


The country’s most densely-populated city recorded the poorest air quality in the morning (between 8 and 9). The air quality index was measured at 159.67μg/m³, which is also lower than that of Monday’s record.
