KATHMANDU, Oct 18: Amrit Thapa Magar and Aarhant Keshar Singh made winning start to the fourth Civil Bank Open Squash Tournament in the men's singles section on Tuesday.
Last edition's runner-up Amrit defeated Amit Begami 11-2, 11-2, 11-2 in the first round match held at Satdobato while defending champion Aarhant overcame Jitendra Bait in straight sets of 11-2, 11-3, 11-0.
Similarly, in other matches of the same event, Prabin Bir Singh Kanskar defeated Rabin Lama 11-4, 11-1, 11-1; Gyanu Chaudhary beat Bijay Magar 11-6, 11-7, 11-3 and Hira Bahadur Thapa ousted Rabin Devkota in straight sets of 11-4, 11-5, 11-3.
In the women's singles matches, Bhawana Sunuwar overcame Laxmi Thapa 11-5, 11-4, 11-3 and Shree Maya Lama defeated Debika Shrish 11-6, 11-5, 11-4. Likewise, Sapana Blon beat Swikriti Sunuwar 11-0, 11-4, 11-5; Swasthani Shrestha overcame Sayaksha Sunuwar 11-1, 11-1, 11-1; Dolma Lama registered 9-11, 11-1, 11-5, 11-6 win over Muna Rawat and Sakshi Sunuwar defeated Muskan Rawat 11-6, 5-11, 11-6, 8-11, 11-9.
Likewise, in the 50 plus veterans event, defending champion Sudip Bahadur Singh defeated Subash Rai 11-8, 11-5, 11-3 while Kiran Shrestha overcame Kulesh Thapa 11-7, 11-5, 11-13.
Similarly, Binod Dhwoj Khadka saw off Ratna Maharjan 11-1, 11-13, 11-5, 11-5. In the same event, Amar Keshar Singh also produced win after his opponent Kishor Maharjan retired hurt during the game.
Altogether 85 players are participating in five different events of the tournament organized Nepal Squash Rackets Association.
