New Diamond, APF make winning starts

KATHMANDU, Sept 13: The women's teams of New Diamond Academy and Armed Police Force (APF) made winning starts to the Third NVA National Women's and Men's Club Volleyball Championship that kicked off at the National Sports Council's covered hall, Tripureshwar on Tuesday.

KATHMANDU, Sept 13: The women's teams of New Diamond Academy and Armed Police Force (APF) made winning starts to the Third NVA National Women's and Men's Club Volleyball Championship that kicked off at the National Sports Council's covered hall, Tripureshwar on Tuesday. 



New Diamond recorded a straight sets win over Tribhuvan Army Club with a comfortable scoreline of 25-11, 25-14, 25-16. 



Similarly, APF made light work of Kavre District Volleyball Association beating it in straight sets. APF recorded 25-5, 25-8, 25-3 win.



Meanwhile, Mani Mukunda Volleyball Club of Rupandehi and Dhorpatan Sports Training Center made winning starts in the men's event. 



Mani Mukunda pulled a comfortable win over Kavre in straight sets of 25-12, 25-17, 25-18. Meanwhile, Dhorpatan toiled hard to beat Budhanilakantha Volleyball Association 3-1. After losing the opening set, Dhorpatan won three sets in a row scoring 25-23, 25-14, 27-25. 



The tournament being held under league-cum-knockout format features 12 teams in men's and nine teams in women's section. The winner of each category will bag a purse of Rs 150,000 each while the runner-up will walk home with Rs 70,000. Similarly, the best players in five different positions will get cash reward of Rs 5000 each.  



Earlier, Minister for Youth and Sports Daljit Sripali inaugurated the tournament.

NVA expanded 

Nepal Volleyball Association (NVA) has appointed a vice president and five members in its executive committee. Ranjan Khadka has been nominated the vice president.



Similarly, former national volleyball captain Bharat Shah, Tek Kumar Rajbhandari, Roshan Shrestha, Bikram Bogati, Jhak Bahadur Mishra and Jeetendra Shrestha have been nominated as members.



Similarly, the association has appointed former NVA President Ganga Bahadur Thapa, Ramesh Man Malla and Ram Chandra Bhandari as its advisor.
