Police, unidentified gang exchange fire at Matatirtha

KATHMANDU, Sept 8: Police and an unidentified armed group exchanged fire at Matatirtha in Chandragiri Municipality-1 on early Thursday.

KATHMANDU, Sep 8: Police and an unidentified armed group exchanged fire at Matatirtha in Chandragiri Municipalit-1 on early Thursday.


According to Superintendent of Police Pradhumna Karki, spokesperson of  Metropolitan Police Range Office, Kathmandu, shots were exchanged between police and individuals riding a Tata Sumo jeep (Na 1 ja 3948) along the Matatirtha-Chihandanda road section this morning. 


The armed group opened two rounds of shots at the police while the latter were carrying out a regular security check. The vehicle was heading toward Hetauda from Kathmandu.

“They fled the scene leaving the vehicle behind after our squad fired back," Karki told Republica Online.


There were four people in the TATA Sumo. Police have recovered a safe from the vehicle. 


A huge number of security personnel have been deployed in the incident site to nab the absconding armed gang.


Police suspect that the gang must have been transporting 'illegal currency'.
