KATHMANDU, Aug 10: The former first class cricketer from Gujarat has been appointed as batting consultant for Nepal’s national cricket team in Kathmandu on Friday. Desai will join the national closed camp from Tuesday and will be with the team up until the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Asia Cup Qualifiers from August 29 to September 6.
The 43-year-old is a Level C cricket coach accredited by Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) National Cricket Academy. He was currently associated with KOOH Sports, a sports education company based in Mumbai as Performance Director Cricket. He was in the BCCI National Cricket Academy’s age-group coaching faculty and visited various academies around the world.
Similarly, he also served as talent scout for various Indian Premier League teams including Royals Challengers Banglore and Kolkata Knight Riders.

He recently was credited for Dinesh Karthik’s rejuvenated batting form after winning the Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka. Karthik scored 8-ball 29 not out runs to win the final match against Bangladesh. Desai was introduced to Karthik by Mumbai cricketer Abhishek Nayar to sort out a few areas in his game.
The two-time capped first class player from Gujarat will be another Indian batting consultant after Monty Desai and Umesh Patwal served similar roles for Nepal in past. Monty recently joined Andhra Pradesh Cricket Association as full time head coach.
