Captain Bharat Khawas hit a corner for Army which was provided a headed pass by defender Nikash Khawas, and headed in by Tamang to give Army the crucial lead. Despite keeping Police under pressure throughout the game creating clear cut chances, Army could not score. Police tried to get back into the game having conceded just at the stroke of half time, but it could not unlock Army’s tight defensive wall.

Army, comprised of a good number of national team players, created several chances in the second period as well, but could not convert them. In the third-placed match, APF overcame Province 5 7-1 to claim the bronze medal.

A total of 10 teams including three departmental teams and all seven provincial sides took part in the tournament, which was played in league-cum-knockout format. The 10 teams were divided into two groups.
