A majority of Nepali artists are busy taking cricket coaching at the Kirtipur Cricket Stadium for the preparation of ‘Matribhumi Cup’. The cricket match will be organized to raise fund for Gautam Buddha International Stadium that is being constructed in Chitwan under the assistance of the Dhurmus-Suntali Foundation. Comic Actors Sitaram Kattel and Kunjana Ghimire are the patrons of the organization.
Prominent artists including Sunil Thapa, Birendra Hamal, Nirmal Sharma, Santosh Lama, and Raju Dhakal are training for the charity game organized by Dhurmus Suntali Foundation. Comic actor Kamal Mainali and national cricket trainer Jagat Tamata are leading their training.
“Two teams- Nepal ‘A’ and ‘B’ will compete against each other for the ‘Matribhumi Cup’. Artists are regular going through their training sessions as preparation for the competition. As per the estimation, around 20 thousand audiences will attend the game,” shared Sitaram Kattel, president of Dhurmus Suntali Foundation. “Players will play the eight-over game and the price of each ticket will cost Rs 300 to 1,000. The stadium is being made under the budget of Rs 3 billion,” Kattel added.
During the first round of the game, the artist will compete. Team Nepal ‘A’ will be led by the captain of a national team Paras Khadka. Similarly, team Nepal ‘B’ will be led by Gyanendra Malla. Moreover, artists also have participated in different teams. Team artist ‘A’ is made under the assistance of comic artist Madan Krishna Shrestha and team artist ‘B’ is made under the assistance of comic actor Hari Bansha Acharya.
Kattel informed that the stadium is proposed for the development of cricket. He said, “Regular practice is necessary in order to promote national cricket but there is a lack of a stadium in the country. Construction of this stadium will allow players to involve in various practice and friendly games.”
Matribhumi cup is scheduled to take place on Saturday.
