Autumn mountain climbing permits attract diverse international interest

KATHMANDU, Sept 11: As the autumn season approaches, the allure of scaling mountains has drawn climbers from across the globe. A total of 284 individuals, organized into 28 teams, have secured permission to undertake mountain expeditions this autumn season.

KATHMANDU, Sept 11: As the autumn season approaches, the allure of scaling mountains has drawn climbers from across the globe. A total of 284 individuals, organized into 28 teams, have secured permission to undertake mountain expeditions this autumn season.


Remarkably, climbers representing 44 different countries have obtained permits to tackle various peaks, with permits being granted for a total of six mountains.

Interestingly, it is not Mount Everest but other peaks that are experiencing higher demand this autumn. Leading the list is Mount Manaslu, which has seen the highest number of permits issued for the season. The Department reports that 266 climbers, distributed among 23 teams, have been granted permission to ascend Mount Manaslu this year.


China leads the way in terms of climbers securing permits, with a total of 67 individuals planning expeditions across various mountains this season, including 18 women adventurers.


Meanwhile, the United States boasts 30 permit holders, including seven women, while Russia has 26 climbers, with four women in their ranks. Japan has 15 climbers granted permission, including four women, and France has 15 climbers, including two women. Nepal, the home of these majestic peaks, has three climbers who have received permits for this season.
