According to Raj Kumar Chhetri, general manager at TIA, international flights of IndiGo, Thai Airways and Air China and three domestic flights of Buddha Airlines and one of Shree Airlines were put on hold due to bad weather. “Only visual flights rules (VFR) flights were affected,” he said, adding, “Instrument flight rules (IFR) flights remained unaffected.” VFR flights are required to fly with visual reference to the ground whereas IFR flights are navigated by the pilot taking reference from the instruments of aircraft cockpit. The flights later landed at the TIA as the weather improved in the evening.

TIA sees 350 to 400 air movement on daily basis, of which 90 international flights take off and land at the international airport every day.
