KATHMANDU, Jan 11: As many as 61 domestic flights were canceled yesterday due to bad weather. Teknath Sitaula, spokesperson for the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), informed Republica that all flights have been canceled due to bad weather.
According to Spokesperson Sitaula, flights scheduled from the TIA were to be conducted by 18 aircraft. He added, “Out of 119 flights scheduled for Tuesday, 61 flights were canceled due to bad weather. Today, there are only 58 domestic flights from the TIA.”
Adverse weather affects TIA air service for 15 minutes
According to the data provided by Spokesperson Sitaula, most of the Buddha Air flights were canceled. Data shows that 33 flights of Buddha Air were put on halt. From the TIA, out of 61 flights scheduled, six flights of Buddha Air were scheduled to fly and the remaining flights were scheduled to fly from other airports. The second highest number of flight cancellations after Buddha Air is Yeti Air. According to the data, 14 flights of Yeti Air were canceled. Out of the total 23 flights, two flights were scheduled from the international airport and the remaining flights from other airports. The statistics show that flights to places like Pokhara, Biratnagar, Bhairahawa, Bhadrapur, Janakpur etc were canceled.
Likewise, 10 flights of Shree Airlines were canceled. A total of 20 flights were scheduled - two from the international airport and the rest from other airports. Shree Air's flights from Biratnagar, Nepalgunj, Dhangadhi and other places were canceled. Apart from this, three flights of Saurya Air and 1 of Guna were canceled.
