KATHMANDU, Oct 18: Travelers of public buses in the Kathmandu Valley now have to pay higher fare as the Bagmati Province government raised the passenger fare effective from Monday.
According to the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development of Bagmati Province, the fare has been increased for the buses that ply on the short route within the province. With the revised fare, a traveler has to pay a minimum of Rs 18, which was previously Rs 15.

The public buses can now charge Rs 18 for a distance up to five kilometers while the fare is Rs 23 for a distance up to 10 km. Similarly, the fare has been fixed at Rs 27 for 15 km, Rs 30 for 20 km and Rs 35 for the distance above 20 km.
The provincial government has also hiked the passenger vehicle fare in the locations outside the valley by 23 percent. The deluxe transports offering luxury services can charge 20 percent in excess of the rates fixed by the authority for normal bus services.
Demanding a hike in transport fares, the operators of short-distance public transport had been staging protests time and again, mainly after the federal government revised the public transport fares for long routes by 28 percent since July 14.
