Bajracharya’s photo declared ‘Photo of the Year 2016’

KATHMANDU, July 29: Deepak Ratna Bajracharya has bagged the tile of the IME Global IME Bank Photo Contest 2016 on Friday.


In the photo contest, organized by Photo Journalists Club Nepal, Bajracharya won the coveted award, trailing 811 contestants behind amidst a program held at Jamal-based Rastriya Naachghar in the capital today. 


His photo, which captures a view of the earthquake at the moment of striking, has been declared the IME Global IME Bank ‘Photo of the Year 2016’. 


Similarly, Nabhesh Chitrakar’s Photo won Sikhar Insurance Nepal Smile genre title while Naresh Shrestha grabbed the IMS Daily Life genre title.


Likewise, Nabhesh Chitrakar won Arghakhanchi Cement News genre title and Ramesh Kumar Paudel clinched the title of Nepal Telecom Nature and Wildlife category. Similarly, Dinesh Shrestha grabbed the title of Ghumphir 2073 Culture and Tourism genre.


Likewise, Model Global Visa Consultancy Sports genre title went to Surbindra Kumar Pun while Nabin Baral’s photo was declared first under the Photo Story category.

Under the IMS Daily Life category, Gopen Rai and Pratap Thapa became second and third respectively.


Likewise, Rajesh Gurung and Laxmi Prasad Nakhusi were declared second and third respectively under Arghakhanchi Cement News genre.


Likewise, Model Global Visa Consultancy Sports Genre title went to Surbindra Kumar Pun while Nabin Baral’s photo was declared first under the photo story category. 


Under the IMS Daily Life category, Gopen Rai and Pratap Thapa became second and third respectively.

Bisop Tamrakar’s photo became second while Bikash Khadka’s third under Nepal Telecom Nature and Wildlife category.  


Similarly, under Ghumphir 2073 Culture and Tourism genre, Sambardhan Bajracharya and Abhash Karmacharya became second and third respectively.


Robik Upadhyaya’s photo bagged second position while Umesh Shrestha’s clinched third title under Model Global Visa Consultancy Sports category. 


Similarly, Rajendra KC and Sulabh Bhakta Shrestha became second and third under Shikhar Insurance Nepal Smile category. Under Photo Story genre, Sagar Chhetri and Nabhesh Chitrakar became second and third respectively.


In the contest as many as 6,670 photos under six different categories underwent two rounds of evaluation.


In the first round of screening, 160 photos were selected while the second round announced first, second and third best photos representing each category including the IME Global IME Bank ‘Photo of the Year.’


The winner will receive a cash prize of Rs 100,000 along with a certificate while the first, second and third will receive Rs 30,000, 20,000 and 10,000 along with certificates, respectively.


The top160 photos will be put in an exhibition in Kathmandu, Biratnagar, Dharan, Sauraha, Bhairaha, Pokhara, Nepalgunj and Dhangadhi before being exhibited in Nepal Art Council, Babarmahal, Kathmandu. The photo exhibition in Nepal Art Council, Babarmahal will take place from August 31 until September 6, 2016.


The participants had an interaction with Prashanta Panjiyar, senior South Asian Indian photojournalist following the announcement of the winner. 


 Keshav Thoker, secretary and program coordinator of the club, had coordinated the program.
