UDAYAPUR, May 6: Until a few years ago, protests used to be city-centric in Nepal. However, that has changed in the recent years. These days, people living in cities seem less bothered by strikes, rallies and sit-ins. But it's the people living in remote areas who suffer the most by the protests staged by various groups.

A strike imposed by Netra Bikram Chand-led Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) on Saturday didn't affect the people living rural areas including the district headquarters Gaighat, Katari and Beltar. On the other hand, vehicular movement was obstructed completely in the rural parts. Though there were comparatively less number of vehicles in the market area of Udayapur, transportation service was not affected much, as per the details of the booking counter of Himali Transportation Entrepreneurs Association.
