KATHMANDU, Feb 28: Normal life in the Kathmandu Valley was partially affected in the early morning Monday, following the possibility of a protest after the US-funded Millenium Challenge Corporation (MCC) was ratified by parliament on Sunday evening.
Similarly, a suspicious object was found in front of the House of Representatives today. Police forces have secured the area and have closed the road section of New-Baneshwar. Only a few vehicles were seen in the early morning but the traffic flow slowly turned to normal by mid-day. While some colleges have remained open, many have remained shut due to fear of violent protests from cadres and members of various political parties.
Schools, colleges to remain closed on Aug 30-31 in view of BIMS...
In the past week, various communist parties staged protests against the ratification of MCC at Maitighar. In the clashes that broke out between agitators and police, casualties were recorded on both sides. Police arrested many protestors and in exchange were pelted with stones by the protestors.
