KATHMANDU, May 11: The Government of Nepal has decided to close public as well as private schools for two days a week, effective from May 16. According to Deepak Sharma, the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, a decision to this effect has already been taken, and both public and private schools have been directed to follow the decision.
There are a total of 50 days of holidays for winter and summer vacations for all schools. “Schools can cut the number of these holidays as necessary to cover their course,” Sharma told Republica. He also said that schools could conduct the classes for the whole day on Fridays. He also said that the annual 50-day winter and annual leave would be reduced to 25 days.

Earlier, the government had directed offices to practice two days holiday per week effective from May 16. However, the schools had not made a concrete decision yet.
