Bhandari, Basnet propel Sethu to second straight win

KATHMANDU, May 9: A goal each from Nepal national women’s football team duo Sabitra Bhandari and Anita Basnet helped Sethu FC register its second straight win of the ongoing Cluster 2 of Hero’s Indian Women’s League on Wednesday.

KATHMANDU, May 9: A goal each from Nepal national women’s football team duo Sabitra Bhandari and Anita Basnet helped Sethu FC register its second straight win of the ongoing Cluster 2 of Hero’s Indian Women’s League on Wednesday. 


In the second group stage match of Cluster 2, Bhandari, Basnet and India’s Sandhiya Rangathan scored a goal each for the team as Sethu defeated Bangalore United Club 3-0.

Earlier, in Sethu’s first and her debut match, Bhandari had scored four goals when the team won 6-4 against Manipur Police Sports Club. 


Bhandari started the scoring in the game in the 11th minute, while Ranganathan doubled the score five minutes before the end of the first half. 


Carrying on its momentum of the first half, it went on about its attacking display to add one more in the second period. Basnet, who came in the place of Bhandari in the second half, scored in the 74th minute to cap up a fine victory. 


Bangalore tried to get a goal back in the remaining time, but it could not break a strong defensive line of Sethu and lost the game.
