KATHMANDU, July 25: Members of the House of Representatives belonging to the main opposition Nepali Congress(NC) and the ruling party Samajbadi Party-Nepal(SPN) have taken exception to the bill on the adjustment of Nepal Police personnel at federal and provincial levels saying that it is against the spirit of federalism.

Speaking at the meeting of parliamentary committee on state affairs and good governance held on Thursday in the capital to discuss the bill on how to adjust Nepal Police personnel in the federal set-up, the leader of the main opposition NC Sanjay Kumar Gautam has objected to the provision in the proposed bill that stipulates that the Chief District Officer(CDO) shall have the authority to mobilize the provincial police force.

Meanwhile, Uma Shankar Argariya, a leader of the SPN, said that the provision in the bill that gives the CDO the authority to mobilize provincial police force is incompatible with the constitution. On the occasion, he claimed that the constitution gives the provincial government the authority to mobilize provincial police force.

He accused the government of trying to give continuity to the old system of giving the CDO the authority to mobilize security forces.
