Biratnagar Metropolis urges for vigilance as India reports cases of Omicron

BIRATNAGAR, Dec 2: With the discovery of cases of a new variant of the coronavirus in India, panic has spread in the border areas of Nepal.


Fears have taken over the border areas of Nepal and India after cases of the Omicron variant were reported in India.


Local units in the border areas have started urging the locals to be vigilant. Stating that the Omicron variant of the coronavirus is more contagious than the variant that was dominant in the second wave, the Biratnagar Metropolitan City has urged all to be vigilant around the municipal area.

The metropolis has urged everyone to adhere to health standards and maintain social distance in public places, schools, and social and cultural programs. The metropolis has requested everyone to use masks, sanitizers and not to go out of the house unnecessarily.


In order to guarantee the health safety of the students in schools, they are urging the people to be vigilant while going to the markets, cinema halls and shopping complexes.


Screening of cargo vehicles, drivers and conductors entering Nepal from India has been started. According to the Biratnagar Customs Office, people have been barred from entering the customs office in violation of health safety norms.


A 'new variant' of the coronavirus seen in South Africa has reached India via Europe. Scientists claim that it is five times more contagious than the earlier Delta variant.
