Surveillance upped in Birgunj border point as India reports cases of Omicron variant

BIRGUNJ, Dec 3: As India recorded the cases of Omicron variant of COVID-19, officials have increased surveillance in the Birgunj border point along the Nepal-India border area.

BIRGUNJ, Dec 3: As India recorded the cases of Omicron variant of COVID-19, officials have increased surveillance in the Birgunj border point along the Nepal-India border area.


Chief District Officer (CDO) of Parsa Umesh Kumar Dhakal said that necessary preparations have been taken from District COVID-19 Crisis Management Center after a few cases of Omicron variant of COVID-19 was reported in India.

It is said that the administration is preparing an action plan to take precautions considering that the new variant of COVID-19 could enter Nepal too. 


Officials are working to prepare necessary plans as Parsa district remains at high risk of a new variant of the COVID-19 as there is an open border regime between the two countries that allows people to freely make cross-border movement.
