KATHMANDU, June 13: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has resumed approving blue prints for buildings from Monday. KMC officials were in confusion over approval right of the blue prints causing a halt in the service for the last few weeks.
According to service seekers, the process of issuing blue prints was in hold since the KMC got its new mayor after the May 14 elections.
KMC to start online approval of house/building blue print
Eshor Raj Poudel, an executive office of the KMC, said that the officials at the blue print department of KMC were in confusion over whether the mayor or the executive officer should sign on the documents. He informed that the confusion has been sorted out from Monday and the process has been resumed.
“Mayor Bidya Sundar Sakya clearly gave me the right to sign the blue prints for houses and the notice has been circulated to the officials at the blue print department,” Poudel said.
He also said that a new provision also has given the rights to approve those documents to the executive officer and the mayor also officially announced to allow the executive officer to issue the blue prints.
Kul Prasad Upadhyay, a local resident of KMC ward no 6, could not extend the deadline to build his earthquake-damaged house due to this confusion. “I could not start building my house in time. I might miss the one-year deadline set to complete the construction of foundation level. So, I have been visiting KMC office since a week but didn't get the service,” he shared his grievances.
As per the current provisions, a house owner has to build the foundation of the damaged house within a year and complete the house in two years to get government grants.
“My house was damaged by the earthquake of April 2015 and the process for getting loan from bank has been delayed. So, I am here (at KMC Office) to extend the deadline,” he added.
