MORANG, Oct 16: Biratnagar Metropolitan City (BMC) has started removing the illegal structures built on the roads against the standards. The metropolis has started removing physical structures including walls that are built on public land illegally.

The construction of various roads in Biratnagar was obstructed as the unauthorized structures including walls that were not within the road standards were not removed.

On Saturday, the metropolis removed a wall that was not within road standards on Kanyamarg located in Biratnagar-3. The wall of the house was removed in the presence of Chief Administrative Officer Bishnu Prasad Koirala under the direction of Mayor Nagesh Koirala.

Since some local residents did not allow the wall to be demolished, the drain and road construction at Kanyamarg had been obstructed for a long time. At present, the locals helped by demolishing their structures and are happy that the infrastructure will be built after the demolition of the wall under the leadership of the metropolis.

“When one person did not remove the structure that is against the standards, the other locals had to face the problem,'' said Janak Timilsina, an elder person. “Today, after the metropolis demolished the structure and continued the development work, the residents are happy that the problem they had to face has come to an end.”

Similarly, the entrance to Kanyamarg from Dharan Road has also been demolished. Gham Chandra Timilsina, a local resident, did not allow the structure near his house to be demolished. Due to this, a drain could not be built there. According to the metropolis, it will remove the unauthorized walls and structures where road construction is obstructed.

Chief Administrative Officer Bishnu Prasad Koirala said, "We have issued notices for the approval of structures including walls that are not built as per the design." He said that the metropolis will remove the structures of the squatters if they don’t clear the place within the given time.
