DHARAN, March 16: BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) is being run without a vice chancellor (VC) after its VC Dr Raj Kumar Rauniyar was sacked by the Ministry of Health and Population On Thursday for "poor performance".
As per the provision, the registrar, who is the second most important person after the VC on the hierarchy, will be automatically appointed to the vacant post. However, Registrar Dr Guru Khanal has received no confirmation until Friday evening regarding whether or not he will be Rauniyar's successor.

The 42nd senate meeting of the BPKIHS held on March 1, decided to relieve Rauniyar from his post and replace him with Dr Khanal. The ministry on Thursday was informed that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has approved the decision of the senate. Rauniyar was sacked for failing to execute his responsibilities effectively. He was having problems with not only the registrar and rector of the institute but also with Health Minister Upendra Yadav.
As the Vice-chancellor has the authority of managing the finance and administration of the institute, the dilemma over whether or not to assign the financial authority of the Institute to the new vice-chancellor, is the reason behind the delay, say officials. "The decision must have been delayed as there is confusion over the roles and responsibilities of the new Vice-Chancellor," said Sujendra Gole Tamang, Chairperson of Karmachari Kalyan Samaj of BPKIHS.
Meanwhile, Minister Yadav stated that discussions are being held over the responsibilities of the Vice-Chancellor. "We are still holding discussions but haven't reached a conclusion yet," said Minister Yadav.
Rauniyar to appeal at court
Meanwhile, Dr Rauniyar, who was sacked from the position of Vice-Chancellor of BPKIHS, has announced to go to court, demanding justice. Earlier, he had filed a writ petition at the High Court to stop the meeting of the senate. The writ petition is subjudice while he has decided to file another case against the senate decision. "I was relived of my post on the basis of baseless accusations which cannot be proved," claimed Rauniyar.
