JUMLA, Aug 15: The construction of a bridge at Khallagaad village of Jubitha – 9 along the Karnali highway is still continuing after four years.

The travellers heading to and from Karnali have been at the receiving end of the delay in completing the construction of the bridge. The monsoon-triggered rise in the water level has disrupted transportation at Khallagaad.

The travellers coming from Kathmandu, Nepalgunj, Surkhet, Jumla and Mugu are forced to walk for hours with their luggage, said Nanda Prasad Neupane, a local of Khallagaad village.

Par Bahadur Budha, of Narokot – 5 of Jumla, who returned home from India's Kala Pahad, was visibly outraged and blamed the state's weakness for delay in constructing the bridge and dilapidated condition of the road.

Ain Bahadur Shahi, a local of Jubitha – 9, claimed that the manual workers helping to build the bridge were yet to receive a collective Rs 4.5 million in wages.

Division Road Office, Jumla's sub-engineer, Bal Bahadur Ad, said the construction work was disrupted because of the monsoon.

A committee has been formed under Karnali Transport Entrepreneurs Association, Jumla Chairman, Min Bahadur Thapa, to monitor the construction work. The committee plans to hold an all-party meeting at the District Administration Office, Jumla today to find ways to resume transportation. RSS
