KATHMANDU, March 19: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Narayankaji Shrestha had a courtesy meeting with British MP Birendra Sharma. MP Sharma is the Chairman of the UK-Nepal All Party Parliamentary Group.
In the meeting held at Singha Durbar, recalling the relationship between Nepal and Britain, DPM Shrestha said that there should be equality between the British Army and the British Gurkha Army, his press coordinator Kamal Giri said. Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha expressed interest in solving the problem and said that he expects special assistance from MP Sharma.

DPM Shrestha expected support from the British government in the context of Nepal being upgraded from a least developed country to a middle-income country in 2026.
While appreciating the role played by Britain in the issue of climate change, he said, "The impact and damage of climate change is more in a country like Nepal. We want the UK's role to be more effective in this." DPM Shrestha was interested in the UK-Nepal trade and infrastructure support from the UK.
During the meeting, British MP Sharma said that he was positive about the contribution and role of the British Gurkhas and said that they were raising the necessary voice on the issue of equality. Britain informed that a study has been conducted on the issue of unequal perks and benefits by the government and that this matter will be resolved in the next three months.
