In Pashupatinath temple, there is a tradition of releasing 12 Nandis on every full moon and one from Makaisubba Guthi, making a total of 13 Nandis in a year. However, it has been found that bulls left in this way are stolen and exported under various pretexts including cow farms.

The PADT issued a statement on Saturday and said that since these types of actions are highly reprehensible and tragic, those involved in such sensitive actions related to the rights of living beings will be severely punished. The Trust has also urged not to encourage this type of illegal activity and assist in rescue if seen.
