Butwal-Lumbini transmission line in operation, power supply to Bhairahawa region will improve

KATHMANDU, July 7:  A 132 KV double circuit transmission line from Yogikuti, Butwal to Mainahiya has come into operation to improve power supply and control technical leakage in the Bhairahawa area of Rupandehi.

KATHMANDU, July 7:  A 132 KV double circuit transmission line from Yogikuti, Butwal to Mainahiya has come into operation to improve power supply and control technical leakage in the Bhairahawa area of Rupandehi.


Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has brought the 18 Km Butwal-Lumbini transmission line from the Butwal substation to the Mainahiya substation into operation by charging electricity on Wednesday. With the construction of the transmission line, the infrastructure has been prepared to transmit about 200 MW of electricity.

A 132/33/11 KV substation has been constructed in Mainahiya. The substation will have two power transformers of 45 MVA capacities and 33/11 KV, 16 MVA power transformers. Hari Prasad Pandey, head of the project, said that the power supply in Butwal and Bhairahawa areas improved as soon as the transmission line came into operation. As many as 10 feeders of 33 KV will be extracted from the Mainahiya substation for local power supply. Pandey mentioned that the line of four feeders has been drawn. As many as 57 towers have been constructed along the 18 Km transmission line.


A 132 KV transmission line has been laid 2 Km underway in the Butwal city area. Preliminary work of the transmission line project was started in fiscal year 2013/14. The construction of the project was delayed due to route change, Covid-19 pandemic and other reasons.


The construction of a line from the Mainahiya substation to Sampatiya  (New Nautanwa) substation in Uttar Pradesh, India is in the final stage. At present, Uttar Pradesh has only 33 KV transmission structure. With the construction of the Mainahiya-Sampatiya line, the inland electricity trade between Nepal and India will become easier.
